Have you ever heard about the Ninjas? They were the most cunning and clever people to ever reside on planet Earth. Their weapons were very smartly designed and they were one of the best if we look at their effectiveness and design but when it comes to their quality, they were not so great as these weapons were made up of cheap materials because the Ninjas were poor peasants and did not have access to much resources. But now the question is that no matter how effective these weapons proved to be in the past, are Ninja weapons still used today? We will discuss this in detail, later in this article, but let us first have an introduction of the Ninjas first.
Who were the Ninjas?
The Ninjas used to live in Japan in the 12th century AD and their establishment was situated right between the Iga and Koga mountains located on the largest Island of Japan at that time known as Honshu. Ninjas had no match when it comes to cleverness and wittiness which they mostly used to carry out cunning deeds i.e. theft, tricking others and executing assassinations. This is why they were also known as “The Shadow Warriors” as they used to perform all such acts with stealth and they were expert in this art. They and their weapons, both were quite deadly and some common Ninja weapons were their swords, throwing knives, throwing stars also known as Shurikens, bo staffs, canes, blowguns, explosives, etc. Ninjas used these weapons to kill, wound, elude or trick their enemy. Do you want to have a look into their mysterious and shadowy world? Let us have a look at some most common Ninja weapons which were widely used by them.
1- The Ninja Swords
Whenever we talk about Ninja weapons, the first and foremost weapon that comes to mind is their swords. Ninja swords used to be the primary Ninja weapons and were the most prized possessions of the Ninjas. The Ninja sword has a few characteristics as well which differentiate it from all other swords. It has a straight razor-sharp blade and a square guard which requires the sword to be gripped from both hands. The Ninjas used their swords for so many purposes other than its use in battles and combats. For example, they used to use their swords to climb walls or to find and attack an enemy in a dark room. So, yes they had their own unique ways of using their weapons and almost all of their weapons were designed in such a way that they could be used for more than one purpose.
2- The Throwing Stars
The Ninja throwing stars were the second most widely used Ninja weapons which they used to trick their enemies and rarely for killing them. These Ninja weapons are also known as Shurikens and were used by the Ninjas to elude their enemies, however, if they wanted to kill with these weapons, then they would apply poison to them and then throw them, resulting in the immediate death of their enemies. The most common types of shurikens are Hira Shuriken, Bo shuriken and Naginata shuriken each performing the same function but differentiating from the other in terms of design and structure.
3- Tekken
These ones are my favorite as I find them really cool and impressive. They are also known as knuckle dusters and are worn around the knuckles of the hand. These Ninja weapons were specifically used in combats and fights and were used to increase the power of the punch thereby inflicting the maximum amount of damage to the victim. These Ninja weapons were specially made from very strong materials so that maximum damage can be done to the victim. They were even used as small shields to block attacks from the opponent’s sword.
Are they Still Used Today?
Yes, Ninja weapons are still used today, not in wars and fights of course as guns and knives have taken their place but they are used for collection purposes or for decoration purposes. Many different types of Ninja weapons for sale i.e. Ninja swords, throwing stars (shurikens), Kunai knives (throwing knives) are available in stores nowadays and people spend a lot on buying the best of them. Ninja weapons made up of foam are even used in LARP and cosplay events where people carry them to complement their costumes. So, yes Ninja weapons are still available today and used as well but their use is not the same as it was so many years ago.
